Imphal, June 04 2025:
Another massive landslide, which occurred on Wednesday around 3 pm along the National Highway 37 (Imphal-Jiribam Road) in between Awangkhul and Langkhong villages has disrupted vehicular movement along the state's second lifeline.
The area, known for its loose soil, is highly prone to landslides and has long been identified as a landslide-prone zone, particularly during periods of rainfall.
Just two days earlier, debris from a previous landslide had been cleared to facilitate resumption of traffic.

However, according to the PRO of ABCI, the road construction company responsible for maintenance, clearing the current debris will not be possible on Wednesday, as continuous rainfall has triggered further mudslides, disrupting ongoing clearance operations.
As a result, vehicular movement along the affected stretch has been halted, leaving many vehicles bound for Tamenglong, Nungba, Jiribam, and nearby areas stranded on both sides of the highway.
Authorities have stated that, weather permitting, debris clearance may be completed by Thursday.
Heavy landslides triggered by continuous rainfall has also been reported along the National Highway 102B, popularly referred to as Guite Road, which connects Churachandpur district headquarters with Aizawl in Mizoram.
The landslides, which struck over the past two days, have brought vehicular traffic to a complete standstill at multiple points.
The landslides hit at least two major stretches of the highway between Sinzawl and Khuanggin, and between Sinzawl and Khawkawn forcing numerous vehicles to halt mid-journey.
In response, the Guite Road Chief Association (GRCA) reached out to the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) for assistance in clearing the debris and restoring traffic.
According to sources, landslides have been reported at 93 locations state-wide over the past three days.
Manipur is technically cut-off from the rest of the country due to occurrence of a massive landslide in Phesama village near Kohima, Nagaland.
On the other-hand, the current flood situation in the state has caused widespread power outages, disrupting electricity supply at multiple locations due to submerged power stations, substations, transmission lines, and equipment.
Due to flooding of distribution facilities power supply has been halted to prevent short circuits and on safety reasons.
The Manipur State Power Company Limited (MSPCL) has reported significant impacts on substations in Imphal East, Senapati, Tamenglong, Ukhrul, Kamjong, and Kangpokpi districts.
In particular, the 132/33 KV Karong Substation and its downstream 33/11 KV substations in Senapati district, along with several substations in Imphal East, have experienced power interruptions caused by faults in various 132 KV and 33 KV lines due to heavy rainfall and elevated river levels.
Notably, substations such as Kongba and the Khuman Lampak main stadium in Imphal East remain flooded.
MSPCL explained that flooded substations and transmission lines become hazardous to operate because of the risk of short circuits and electrocution.
As a precaution, power has been switched off in affected areas to ensure public safety.
Continuous rain showers, ranging from light to heavy, accompanied by strong winds, mudslides, and landslides, have damaged electric poles along National Highways and caused frequent power outages across the state.
Hill districts including Tamenglong, Noney, Ukhrul, Kamjong, and Jiribam have been particularly affected.
Restoration work to repair faulty lines, substations, and equipment is currently underway.
MSPCL has requested patience from consumers in the affected districts as efforts continue to restore normal power supply as quickly as possible.
