Imphal, May 22 2015 :
United Committee Manipur (UCM) on Friday lashed out at Chief Minister O Ibobi for his statement which said that the Centre would be consulted over the current Dzkou valley boundary standoff.
"Manipur's clear-cut political boundary was also officially fixed when it got statehood in 1972.Dzkou valley belongs to Manipur and not Nagaland," UCM president Johnson Elangbam said on the occasion of 4th foundation day of Kanglei Ima Lup.
The anniversary celebration was held at Manipur Press Club.
Johnson further said the land stretch from Dzkou hill to Kozri has existed as Manipur's boundary since time immemorial and added that it was also officially fixed as political boundary of the State when it got statehood.
He pointed that some vicinities inside the territory of Nagaland existed as Manipur's territorial area in the past.
"This region remained as Manipur's political boundary when Nagaland got its statehood in 1963," he said.
"We're quite surprised to learn that CM Ibobi wants to consult the boundary issue with the Centre," he said.
He said the move of postponing the matter by the State Government with the hope that people will get bored over time should be avoided.
Meanwhile, All Manipur Muslim Coordinating Committee (AMMCOC) has announced to support the 24-hour Manipur wide strike called by Mao Council to protest the alleged encroachment on Dzkou valley by Angami people of Nagaland State.
A statement of the Muslim body said that it is a shame that the Manipur Government is unable to take any action against Nagaland over the boundary issue.
It said the best thing it thinks the State Government can do is to avert the potential tension between the two neighbouring States over the border dispute and appealed to the Government to bring a quick solution to it.
