Sarbananda Sonowal arrives : Proposed sports varsity to be studied

Union Minister of State (Independent charge) for Sports and Youth Affairs, Sarbananda Sonowal has appealed to the people of the State to extend co-operation and support to setting up of first ever Sports University of the �country in Manipur.
The Union Minister arrived at Imphal from Guwahati at around 11.45 am today.
He is scheduled to address an election rally for ADC election at Churachandpur and meet Chief Minister Okram Ibobi and other officials concerned regarding setting up of Sports University in the State.
Soon after his arrival at Tulihal airport, the Union Minister went straight to Utlou and inspected the present condition of SAI complex, Utlou before he had his lunch at the residence of BJP Manipur Pradesh president Th Chaoba.
During a brief interaction with reporters at SAI complex, Utlou, the Union Minister said that he is communicating with Chief Minister Okram Ibobi regarding State Government's position and present status on setting up of the first Sports University of the countiy in Manipur.
He also appealed to the people of the State to extend co-operation and support to the said endeavour.
The Minister said that the Central Government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi is giving priority to the North East region on the development front.
The entire region would be benefited by the University, he said expressing hope that the varsity would enhance sports structure of the country.
When enquired whether the State Government has-provided land for the varsity, the Union Minister said that he would discuss the matter with the Chief Minister tomorrow.
Stating that the people of the State are hardworking and committed, Sonowal said that the Centre had decided to establish the first ever Sports University of the countiy in Manipur acknowledging the State's contribution to sports in the country.
He said that the Centre is now ready to begin construction works-of, the varsity any time.
He further said that one of the primary objectives of his Ministry is upgradation of infrastructure and sports equipment.
