Senapati, May 22 2015 :
Following an assurance from Chief Minister Okram Ibobi to initiate necessary action in consultation with his Nagaland counterpart TR Zeliang on the encroachment issue in Koziiri area and Dzuko valley, the Mao Council has called off its proposed 24 hour State-wide total bandh.
According to an official information, the bandh was called off after an assurance was given by the State Government to immediately begin an inquiry into the matter along with communicating the Nagaland Government for a proper talk.
It may be noted that the apex body of the Mao tribe had submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister seeking intervention into the encroachment of about 10 km in the State territory by SANPO.
Due to the prolonged silence of the State Government, the Mao Council in an attempt to draw the attention of the State Government to the issue announced the total bandh.
