Imphal, May 14:
Throwing its weight behind the cause of Lei-Ingkhol residents who have been protesting for the last 25 days against the decision of the State Government to evict them for constructing the Capitol Project, All Manipur United Clubs Organisation (AMUCO) demanded that the Government review its decision.
In a statement, assistant publicity secretary of AMUCO NC Modhuchandra observed that right to life of the people should not be trampled in the name of development.
Instead of targeting the hapless residents of Lei-Ingkhol, it would be wiser if Govt choose another site and suggested vast tract of wasteland located within a radius of 5 kms from Imphal.
Meanwhile, the local Lei-Ingkhol, residents continued with their sit-in-protest demonstration along the sides of Imphal-Dimapur road even as the agitation being spearheaded by Joint Action Committee Against the Eviction of Lei-Ingkhol entered its 25th day today.
On the other hand, Deputy Commissioner of Imphal East District has issued an notification on May 7 under Sub Section (1) of Section 4 of Land Acquisition Act, 1894 for acquisition of land for protection of the historical monuments of the Maharajas and Raj Durbar building of the New Palace (San Konung) even as Palace Compound Residential Society has opposed to such a move.
Any persons who have objection to the land acquisition move may filed complaints within March 31, according to the notification.
