Awareness on frozen semen tech held

Public awareness on Artificial Insemination (A.I.) with frozen semen technology was organized at Parsain Nepali village in Kangpokpi Sub Division on Tuesday.
Sponsored by the Project Officer, ICDP, Porompat, Imphal the awareness programme was organized by Deputy Director, Sub Divisional Vety.

Hospital, Kangpokpi graced the function as Chief Guest and Functional President respectively while Dr O Lokendro, VO Manipur Livestock Development Board and Dr.Sanasam Shantikumar, Project Officer, ICDP, Porompat attended the function as resources person.
Speaking at function Laxmi Prasad Khatiwoda, Chairman, Parsain Area Development Committee said that in the year 1982 the Parsian Vety.
Dispensary was upgraded to Parsain Veterinary Hospital by providing frozen semen for Artificial Insemination with the main objective to upgrade local cows to cross breeds Jersey Cow for production of more milk and to fulfill the needs of the dispensable food to the people of the area.
He added that in collaboration with the Vety.
Department and the Parsain Area GPL-MPCS LYD different varieties of improved cows from Haryana, Punjab and Assam were procured.
However, due to shortage of supply and expert persons in the area the Artificial Insemination activities were brought to a standstill.
The Parsain Area Development Committee Chairman said that while anticipating that the awareness programme it will definitely bring speedy improvement of the cows in the area as well as bring forth and strengthen the supply of frozen semen with crejocane for insemination of cow.
The Chairman also highlighted the need to constructed Veterinary Hospital building in the area with Vety.
Doctor (VAS) for better treatment of cows to protect from various diseases while adding that there are more than 1000 cattle populations the area.
While Dr.Sanasam Shantikumar, Project Officer, ICDP, Porompat emphasized on the topic of Artificial Insemination with frozen semen technology in cattle Dr..OLokendro , V.O.Manipur Livestock Development Board stressed on the Advantages of A.I.& infertility in cattle.
The resource persons also said that Artificial Insemination was first introduced in 1939 at Palace Dairy Farm in Mysore and later it was introduced at the Regional Artificial Insemination Centre in Bangalore, Calcutta, Patna and Montgomery (now in Pakistan) in the year 1942 .
With the establishment of Project Office (Intensive Cattle Development Project)/Liquid Nitrogen Plant at Porompat in by Veterinary & Animal Husbandry, Artificial Insemination with frozen semen was introduced in Manipur in 1991said the resource persons.
A part from more than 50 participants the staff of Sub Divisional Vety.
Hospital, Kangpokpi also took part in the awareness program.
