Imphal, May 05 2015 :
As the number of applications submitted by intending candidates to contest the ADC election from BJP was way beyond the number of ADC seats, BJP Manipur Pradesh failed to give tickets to all the applicants and satisfy them.
This was stated by State BJP president Thounaojam Chaoba today.
He also regretted the inconvenience caused and disappointment felt by those applicants who did not get the BJP ticket.
Addressing media persons today at the office of BJP Manipur Pradesh at Nityaipat Chuthek, Th Chaoba said that BJP earlier faced problems in finding candidates to represent the party and could succeed in finding only 3-4 candidates.
However, the scenario has changed today drastically as the State unit received a whopping 340 applications for the 144 seats for the coming ADC polls of June 1 .
The huge number of applications caused quite a troubling task to the BJP State unit regarding which candidates to be selected, and the State unit even sought the help of BJP National Observer in the various steps of screening, and ultimately decided to announce the list of 130 candidates, Chaoba said.
The State BJP president also denied any cases of favouritism while selecting candidates as charged by some section and assured that if anyone produces evidences of corrupt practices while giving BJP tickets, the State unit will take strong action against those involved.
He appealed to the aspiring candidates who could not get the party ticket not to be disappointed and to keep supporting BJP as always.
The sudden surge in number of applications to BJP is a clear indication that the strong wave of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and president Amit Shah has finally arrived in Manipur, he added.
Talking about major agendas of the BJP in the coming ADC elections, Th Chaoba announced that the party will focus on eradicating poverty and corruption, better roads, water supply and power facilities, building houses for BPL families and proper distribution of PDS items.
He expressed his optimism that BJP will surely achieve victory in the coming polls.
Heating up the pre-poll ongoing debate and political attacks between BJP and Congress, the State BJP president termed the 60-year rule of Congress as a 'non-progressive' phase where corruption and denial of basic needs to the people were the major highlights.
He charged that hill Ministers and MLAs have failed to deliver proper welfare to the hill people through the Tribal Welfare Department as these elected representatives were busy piling up their assets instead of serving the people.
Mere opening of SDO offices and police stations in hill districts cannot be counted as real development as the police personnel posted there are equipped only with canes and logs as weapons.
He claimed that both administration and development have failed in hill areas and all the quotas reserved for the hill people are enjoyed by the hill Ministers and MLAs.
Th Chaoba added that the major reason for Government employees unwilling to go to remote hill areas inspite of being posted there is due to the absence of proper quarters and the assumption that their near and dear ones will not be secure there.
The Government needs to pay attention to these aspects if it wants to achieve balanced development in the State, he said and assured that the State unit of BJP under his leadership will fulfil all the targets and visions of PM Narendra Modi.
