Taking serious note of the apparent gap between the Government and the party as conceived by the people, Rajya Sabha MP Rishang Keishing has asserted that Government should consult the party in all its activities.
This would not only be a correct step but would strengthen the party.
The veteran politician was addressing a Congress workers' conference organised by Phungyar Block Congress Committee at Riha village community hall today.
With the District Council elections and Parliamentary elections approaching, the Government should hand over one-third of all work programmes to MLAs while the remaining two-third should be entrusted to the party, he stated.
On recruitment to Government jobs, MLAs should be consulted in recruiting 50 percent of the total posts even if 50 percent are recruited on merit basis.
Claiming that no political party can defeat or bring down Congress party except by internal dissension/conflict, Rishang Keishing noted that UG outfits have grasped all benefits and advantages associated with development works.
Calling upon the party workers and leaders to redress this problem, the MP cautioned that internal impasse would prove disastrous.
At present, Ukhrul district is facing a misfortune, he observed that while asserting that people of the three districts of Ukhrul district are like without a leader.
The misfortune was caused by the fight with opponents during elections, he said while calling upon all Congress workers to unitedly and with peace of mind.
In his speech, MPCC president Gaikhangam observed that Tangkhul people of Ukhrul district who were once ahead of other communities seems to have fallen back.
With no Congress candidates contesting in the three districts in the last Assembly elections, the district has fallen behind in development front, he noted.
Stating it needs a thorough analysis on why the people of Ukhrul district distanced away from Congress party, he asserted that it would be wrong to keep the people in dark about the initiatives of the Government and the plans of the party.
Noting the disadvantage suffered by people of Ukhrul district because of not electing Congress candidates, TD Minister DD Thaisii cautioned that Ukhrul district may become the most backward district, in case no Congress candidates cane be elected in next Assembly elections.
Claiming that Congress party is one political party which understands the sentiments of tribal people and the also the situation of the North East region, Thaisii appealed to the people not to stay aloof from the party.
MLA Y Surchandra decried against letting one's liberty robbed under pressure during election time.
Observing that the Phungyar A/C is like having no MLA, Surchandra called upon the Congress party and its leaders to make up for the apparent absence of MLA The conference was also addressed by Minister L Jayantakumar, MLA L Nandakumar, Youth Front president Tilotama, MLA Govindas Konthoujam and MPCC treasurer S Achouba.
