Imphal, August 04:
Even as all the North Eastern States have sent their nominees for this year's MBBS course at Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) and the session already commenced, the State authority is yet to send its nominees for the course.
According to an instruction of the Medical Council of India, all medical colleges/institutions should begin their sessions from August and all admissions processed should be completed on or before August 31.Accordingly, sessions for MBBS course have started at RIMS too, informed an official of the institution.
As the session has been already started with students nominees from Tripura, Nagaland, Sikkim, Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh, the MBBS students of the State would be missing classes.
On the other hand, the institute has no arrangement to repeat the classes missed by the State nominees.
Stating that the State Government should send 30 nominees to RIMS for studying MBBS, the official informed that even as the State Govt send the State nominees today, it would take about a week or more in completing medical fitness test and other formalities.
Under the circumstances, it is the medical students (nominees) of the State who stand to lose a great deal, the official noted.
However while talking to Health Department Director Dr W Motilal , he said that the delay in sending the Govt nominees is because of the Centre's failure to give a definite number of seats for students of the State desirous to pursue medical studies outside Manipur.
Meanwhile, with the beginning of the new session, the RIMS Students' Union has appealed to all students to refrain from ragging freshers.
Even though the Health Dept had conducted MBBS entrance test and results declared, it is yet to publish list of selected students and conduct counselling.
