Body formed to tackle harassment

In connection with the alleged harassment of Nongshum villagers by militants, a public meeting was held today and it was resolved to form a committee in order to tackle all untoward incidents related with militancy.
The meeting held at Nongshum community hall was attended representatives of many surrounding villages and it resolved to set up the Uyumpok Gram Panchayat and Khamenlok Area Development Committee in order to tackle all unwanted incidents in the areas of Nongshum, Khongbal and Khamenlok.
In case any excess is committed by a UG group, the community to which the particular UG group belongs should take responsibility.
This was one point agreed at the meeting.
It was also agreed to call off the agitation spearheaded by the JAC Nongshum since March 20 .
Apart from imposing indefinite bandh on Imphal-Khongbal and Imphal-Khamenlok roads, the JAC took up arms (licensed) and guarded the village round the clock.
Representatives of Khopibung, Khamenlok, Chalouphai, Phainom, Aigejang, Thumbol, Jodalphai, Songjang, Govajang, Khongbal and Uyumpok villages took part in the meeting.
