Imphal, April 04 2016:
BJP Manipur in-charge Prahlad Singh Patel's assertion that the BJP State executive meeting held at Hotel Imphal today was the last meeting of the previous term has evoked a big question on the fate of Th Chaoba as president of BJP Manipur Pradesh.
Notably, the notification issued for today's executive meeting claimed that it was the first meeting for the term 2016-19, and it was attended by special invitees, ADC Members and Chairpersons of Nagar Panchayats and Municipal Councils.
Highlighting his achievements as BJP Manipur Pradesh president such as the ADC election, Municipal Council and Nagar Panchayat elections and the by-election to two Assembly segments, Chaoba stated that the meeting was the first executive meeting of the new term 2016-19 .
Flatly rejecting Chaoba's claim, BJP Manipur in-charge Prahlad Singh Patel contended that it was the last executive meeting of the previous term.
Although Patel did not say anything about extension of tenure of the incumbent BJP Manipur Pradesh president or about election of a new president, he categorically stated that a State executive body and core committee would be set up soon.
This statement has put the position of Th Chaoba in a precarious condition, opined many observers.
It was said that all those people who attended the meeting could not be assumed as State executive members.
Notably, new party presidents of some States were elected in the BJP general executive meeting held at Delhi recently but nothing was said about Manipur.
Taking a cue from this silence, Th Chaoba declared that he would remain the president of BJP Manipur Pradesh.
