One held with 972 gm gold paste

Imphal, April 29 2024: Sleuths of Anti-Smuggling Unit and Air Intelligence Unit, Customs Division, Imphal along with CISF personnel manning Imphal International Airport apprehended a person along with gold in paste form estimated to worth Rs 70.32 lakh from the airport, on Sunday.

According to a statement issued by Customs Division, Imphal superintendent (PRO), the joint team detained the said person in possession of a packet containing gold paste.

Another two oval shaped packets suspected to be gold of foreign origin in paste form, each wrapped with rubber sheath and concealed in rectum of the accused were also recovered.

The recovered gold pastes weighing 972.28 gram is valued at Rs 70.32 lakh, the statement informed, while adding that further investigation to apprehend others involved in the smuggling racket underway.
