Bishnupur, July 24 2024:
Toubul Welfare Association secretary Th Bira has urged the state govern ment to uphold its cabinet decision of conducting elections to the Autonomous District Council (ADC), Panchayat and Municipal Council in September this year and not make it a "rat decision" .
In a press meet held at his residence in Toubul on Wednesday, Bira informed that the annual Toubul cleanliness drive, organised jointly with Toubul Gram Panchayat on August 8 every year, will not be conducted this year owing to the prevailing unrest situation.
Slamming the state government's failure to resolve the violence between the Meetei and Kuki communities, he dismissed demands of the Kukis as unreasonable stating that Manipur has been home to around 36 indigenous communities for thousands of years.
Even the Kukis and Meeteis were living together in peace until it was disrupted by some people with evil intentions, leading to people killing each other and displacement of thousands.
All of these will one day come to naught, he remarked.
Bira further said that Manipur will disappear once every single community living in the state raises the same demand for separate administration and union territory like the Kukis.
It is not that difficult to predict that other communities would soon turn their back on the Kukis, he reminded the latter and asked the community to withdraw its demand as soon as possible.
