In a very rare incident of its kind, Headmistress-in-charge of a Government Upper Primary School allegedly tore answer sheets of some students thereby derailing the annual promotion examination.
Narankonjil Mamang Leikai Upper Primary School Headmistress-in-charge Thounaojam (O) Memcha snatched and tore answer sheets of some students at around 11.30 am yesterday when the annual promotion exam was underway.
Talking about the bizarre incident to this reporter, School Management and Development Committee (SMDC) member Asem Birjit said that the Government has already transferred Headmistress-in-charge Th Memcha to another school.
An order issued by the Government on November 26 this year posted Pangambam Brojenkumar as Headmaster-in-charge of the Upper Primary School.
However, the transfer and posting order has been stayed after Memcha filed a petition at Court against the particular order.
Nonetheless, both Memcha and Brojenkumar have been attending the same school which has now around 30 students.
During the past 10 years, there was very few student in the school and it was revived at the initiative of ZEO Wangoi after holding a meeting with the local people ahead of the commencement of the current academic session.
Annual promotion examination of the school started since December 3.However, after Memcha tore answer sheets of some students yesterday, the promotion examination has been put on hold.
Infuriated by the conduct of the Headmistress-in-charge, local people tried to attack Memcha but the violent reaction was thwarted off with the timely arrival of police.
Memcha brought her sons and allegedly threatened Brojenkumar.
Brojenkumar reported the matter to the ZEO Wangoi and the ZEO issued a notification saying that written examination of which answer sheets were torn should be held afresh.
But the same notice was torn by Memcha this morning, Birjit conveyed.
Later a public meeting was held at the locality and it was resolved to hold Memcha accountable in case any untoward incident happens to Brojenkumar.
Meanwhile, people of Narankonjil today staged a protest demonstration urging the Government to take up disciplinary action against Memcha and also not to keep Memcha at the school any longer.
MSF Imphal West District Committee general secretary Johnson Waikhom remarked that the very act of snatching and tearing answer sheets was against the ethics of teaching profession.
