Imphal, July 27 2025:
A house belonging to one Huidrom Mangitombi Devi of Yumnam Huidrom Makha Leikai, Tera Makhong, under Wangoi police station, was reduced to ashes in a fire incident op Sunday morning, causing extensive loss of property worth around Rs 5 lakh.
The fire broke out around 9:40 am, and though personnel from Wangoi PS and fire service responded promptly, they were reportedly delayed by traffic congestion, resulting in the flames engulfing the house entirely.
The wooden structure of the house led to rapid spread of the fire, destroying household belongings, including cash.
Huidrom Bisheswor, son of the house owner, said that nothing could be salvaged from the blaze.
"We lost everything including Rs 5 lakh kept for getting back mortgaged farmland, gold ornaments, cupboards, and other household items," he said; adding that the fire consumed the house before help could arrive.
Wangoi MLA Khuraijam Loken visited the site to assess the damage.
He said that the fire was believed to be triggered by a gas leak and noted that the narrow road leading to the house hindered the fire service's timely arrival.
Loken announced financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh from his MLA fund and assured that efforts would be made to help rebuild the house and explore available government schemes for support.
