21 kg uterine tumour removed from elderly woman

Imphal, April 29 2024:
A team of doctors at Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) was able to successfully remove 16kg and 5kg uterine tumours from a 60-year-old woman.
The team led jointly by JNIMS Department of Obs & Gynae Prof Helen Kamei and anaesthetist Prof Thoibahenba removed the tumours from the uterus of a 60-year-old patient from Sekmaijin.
The patient was initially brought to the hospital with complaints of abnormal bulging in the abdomen.
After admittance, she underwent the requisite tests and subsequently, the operation was performed successfully.
It is said that so far, it is the biggest uterine tumour to be removed from a patient in the state.
