Imphal, July 27 2025:
Meetei Council Moreh (MCM) has expressed concern over inordinate delay in disbursal of the promised financial assistance to the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), urging the state government to expedite the remaining, payments.
Council president Mayanglambam Thoiba Meitei pointed out that the state government had earlier promised Rs 1 lakh as assistance to each IDP family, but only Rs 25,000 has been disbursed as the first instalment.
He appealed to the President's Rule administration in the state to ensure that the remaining amount is released promptly, noting that many IDPs are still waiting for subsequent payments despite having submitted all necessary documents.
Thoiba also disclosed that some IDPs have not received any amount at all, while those who received the initial Rs 25,000 are left uncertain about when the remaining instalments will be provided.
He said that the delay is causing serious hardship for displaced families, particularly in meeting expenses related to children's education and medical treatment.
Thoiba questioned the rationale behind releasing the assistance in four instalments, especially after the government had announced the full amount as a relief measure.
He posed what is preventing the state from releasing the remaining sum at one time to IDPs who are already struggling to survive in relief camps.
Speaking on behalf of the IDPs, Thoiba Meitei called on the government to act swiftly and fulfil its commitment, emphasising that timely financial support is essential for displaced families to rebuild their lives with dignity.
