MU students bat for peaceful education

Supporting the campaign for a disturbance-free education zone, students of Manipur University staged demonstration at the university's gate on Wednesday.
During the demonstration organised by the Coordinating Committee on Disturbance-Free Educational Zone Demand, MU students called for an end to disruptions in educational institutions, urged all concerned not to target schools and colleges for monetary demands and advised the government to refrain from politicising the education sector.
The student protesters also demanded the government to enact a law guaranteeing minimum of 220 days of regular classes, avoid unnecessary harassment of students and to end corruption, nepotism, and favoritism in all education-related activities.
MU research scholar Mayengbam Kabir -das, who participated in the demonstration, emphasised that the government must ensure students are not deprived of their right to education in any form but to strive for smooth conduct of classes to realise the goal of the progressive society.
