Imphal, July 27 2025:
Education (S) secretary Naorem Praveen Singh has stressed the need for making it easier for everyone to promote our language and script.
He made the statement as the chief guest during the 21st annual prize distribution function of Okram Sagei Apokpa Trust, Thoubal at Loktak Hall of Manipur Press Club on Sunday.
The function was attended by Trust president Okram Sudesh as president and DM College of Commerce ex-principal Dr Okram Kumar Singh as guest of honour.
Praveen continued that to promote a language, we need to increase the number of speakers.
For this, there is a need for making it easier for everyone to promote our language and script.
He said that the old education system had many shortcomings.
English became mandatory for students, which made the students put in for effort to understand a topic or concepts.
This was rectified by NEP 2020 and as such, students are able to study the foundation and preparatory stages in their own mother tongues, which is a correct step in the right direction, he remarked.
Stating that the world is changing at a rapid pace, Praveen said that all should try to be part of the change.
In this regard, the students and the youth play an important role.
They need to continue increasing their knowledge and be more innovative, he asserted.
As part of the function, students of the Okram clan who secured high marks in the Class X and XII examinations along with selected sportspersons were presented with gifts as encouragement.
