Women vigilantes demand release of village volunteers

Meira Paibis (women vigilantes) of 14 villages in Koirengei area have demanded unconditional release of the village volunteers arrested by state and central forces on Monday.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club Thangjing Hall here on Tuesday, Chaokhat Khongthang Apunba Nupi Lup, Awang Potshangbam Khullen president S Madhabi noted that sons of the soil came out as village volunteers to defend the land since the conflict broke out on May, 3 while conceding that without them the situation in the state would be grim.
As such, those village volunteers arrested by combined state and central forces on Monday should be released without any conditions, she demanded.
Stating that Awang Potshangbam side is red-zone area, Madhabi maintained that the village volunteers have been shielding people of the area and reiterated the demand for releasing the arrested village volunteers unconditionally.
