Kakching, January 02 2025:
World Meetei Council (WMC) has reacted sharply to alleged attempts by the state government to dissolve the Council and arrest its chairman Heigrujam Nabashyam by filing various criminal cases against him.
As per a release of WMC Manipur general secretary K Muhen, the government's actions, especially attempts to disband WMC, along with filing cases under Section 406,409 and 420 of IPC against its chairman, are totally unacceptable.
The Council asserted that it has been refuting the false allegations made by Chin-Ku-ki perpetrators at UN and UN Human Rights Commission: demanding ST status for Meetei before the delimitation process for constitutional protection and fighting the PIL filed by Khongjai community against Meeteis in the Supreme Court of India.
Cautioning that such actions will lead to public unrest, the Council demanded the government to withdraw its steps immediately.
WMC also suggested that instead of targeting the organisation, the government should work to resolve the ongoing turmoil in the state.
