Take decisive action: Tombi to central forces

Imphal, April 29 2024: Expressing serious concern over the attack and killing of Central force personnel, who are regarded as neutral force amid the ongoing violence, Shiv Sena Manipur president M Tombi Singh opined that Central forces need not be neutral now but take decisive action against the attackers.

Addressing media persons at the Babupara office of Shiv Sena Manipur unit, here, on Monday, M Tombi said that the Central government must make the people of Manipur aware about the present status of Suspension of Operation (SoO) with Kuki armed groups, which expired on February 29 last.

Apart from attacking trucks plying along national highways, Kuki militants have started targeting central forces as was evident when two CRPF personnel lost their lives and two others injured when a CRPF post at Naranseina in Bishnupur district was attacked few days back.

Even though Kuki militants continue with their attacks on fringe villages with bombs and sophisticated weapons causing unrest to villagers, both the Centre and state government remain silent spectators, he said and asked if the Centre will remain silent when crisis similar to Manipur's happens in other states.

While asserting that Central forces need not remain as neutral force now, M Tombi asked security advisor Kuld-iep Singh if the Central forces would remain as neutral force when they are being targeted and killed.

He also said that time has come for utilisation of all the available forces to uproot Kuki narco-terrorists completely from Manipur.

When the Prime Minister of Thailand had already termed Kukis as 'virus' and armed forces of Bangladesh and Myanmar taken decision to eliminate the Kukis, the Central government continues to protect and promote Kuki narco-terrorists in Manipur, M Tombi said and asked what the government of India is benefiting from promoting the Kuki narco-terrorists.

According to M Tombi, people of Manipur are now suspicious of the role of administration in the present crisis and it would be beneficial for the people to be aware from where courage of some sections of people seeking refuge in Manipur has come to attack and displace indigenous people of the land by torching houses and properties.

He further said the state administration should not take lightly the attack on fuel tankers along the Imphal-Jiribam road, damage caused to a bridge along Imphal-Dimapur road using IEDs and attempt to destroy high power transmission tower using bombs at Pallel recently by armed Kukis.

In view of the emerging situation, the state government should take immediate steps to establish highway protection force or else provide arms to drivers for self-defence, Tombi said.
