Imphal, October 09 2021: Heart attack in particular and other heart diseases in general are the commonest cause of death.

Early accurate diagnosis and immediate cardiac first aid in the first golden hour will help save life.

That is where the role of Tele-Cardiology Service in Manipur comes in.

This service was inaugurated by chief minister N Biren on September 10 for the Chandel District Hospital.

The Tele-ECG system when connected to a patient attending the Tele-Cardiology Unit of the district hospital will transmit the 12 ECG live to the command centre at Manipur Heart Hospital/SKY Hospital instantly.

The cardiologist at the command centre will analyse the ECG immediately and provide the support to the doctors, nurses and HWP of the district tele cardiology unit, and provide the ECG diagnosis like heart attack, heart block various palpitation (PSVT, AF, ventricular, ectopic/tachycardia or fibrillation).

Accordingly, treatment advice will be immediately provided and patients stable enough may continue treatment at the district hospital.

While the patient whose life has been saved but needs to sustain life has to be transferred to tertiary heart care centre or SKY Hospital for further investigation and management.

The second Tele-Cardiology Unit has been installed at Senapati District Hospital.

All the 14 district hospitals, where there are no cardiologists, will be covered by the Tele-Cardiology Service.

The service has been made possible with the initiative of chief minister N Biren and it will be jointly implemented by the Health Department, National Health Mission, Manipur and Manipur Heart Foundation with its affiliated SKY Hospital.
