Imphal, March 23 2023: A media sensitisation programme on the National TB Elimination Programme was held today at RD Wing, Lamphelpat under the aegis of State Tuberculosis Cell, Manipur.

Speaking on the media sensitisation programme held under the theme 'Role of Media to End TB by 2025', State TB Officer Dr Waikhom Sashi said that there is a huge responsibility in advocacy, communication and social mobilisation (ACSM) toward elimination of TB.

He appealed to the media to disseminate detailed information on the advantages of early diagnosis and treatment of TB and also the risk associated with late diagnosis.

Further appealing to the media fraternity to act as a bridge or means of communication between TB experts and the public, Dr Sashi called upon all the people to work collectively in order to make Manipur TB-free.

TB can be cured if it is treated in time, the State TB Officer said.

After the World Health Organisation had set a target to eliminate TB from the planet by 2023, Prime Minister Narendra made an announcement to eliminate TB from the country by 2025, Dr Sashi said.

AMWJU president Wangkhemcha Shamjai lauded the efforts of the State TB Cell toward elimination of TB from the State.

He appealed to all the people to support the efforts aimed at prevention, successful treatment and elimination of TB in the State.

He also appealed to the State's media fraternity to shoulder due responsibility toward elimination of TB from the State.
