Imphal, April 05 2009: Addressing an election meeting held at the Sawombung Tezpur ground after taking out a motor-cycle rally for CPI candidate Dr Moirangthem Nara today, Health Minister Pheiroijam Parijat stressed on the need to elect a capable and competent MP who could sacrifice for the State.

Noting that seven candidates have filed their nomination papers for the Inner Parliamentary constituency scheduled to go to polls on April 22, Parijat pointed out that Thounaojam Chaoba of MPP has been already tested by people after being elected to the Lok Sabha three times earlier.

Other than the lost of 18 lives during the tenure of Th Chaoba as Union Minister of State when ceasefire between the Central Government and the NSCN (IM) was extended without territorial limits in 2001, Th Chaoba did not take up any welfare or development programme for the State.

On the other hand, people are witness to the condition of Manipur when BJP candidate Wahengbam Nipamacha was Chief Minister of the State for around 2 years and a half, Parijat iterated.

When Nipamacha was Chief Minister of Manipur, the State Government could not pay even salaries of its employees.

With the State Government unable to implement any development programme, Manipur slipped into a most backward State in the country, the CPI Minister asserted.

Turning to Congress candidate Dr T Meinya, Parijat questioned whether Dr Meinya put up any proposal for the benefit of the State on the floor of Parliament during the last five years as an MP from Manipur.

Because of all these reasons, people need to introspect and retrospect before casting their votes this time, he said.

Earlier in the day, the CPI took its election campaign to different parts of Imphal East district with a motor-cycle rally.

The motor cycle rally taken out for CPI candidate Dr Moirangthem Nara was participated by around 500 motor-cyclists, comprising mainly of youths.

The motor-cycle rally was flagged off by CPI State unit leader Sotinkumar from Yaingangpokpi at about 10 am today.

The motor-cyclists wore white shirts emblazoned with the words, "Vote for Dr Nara, Vote for CPI".

The rally after covering different places of Imphal East district arrived at Sawombung Tezpur ground at about 3 pm.

There the motor-cyclists were received by Health Minister Ph Parijat.
