Imphal, February 05 2015: A Cabinet meeting held today decided to approach the Governor with an appeal to convene the next session of the Manipur State Assembly from February 25 as the State's annual budget for 2015-16 must be prepared before the month of March.

The Cabinet meeting presided by Chief Minister O Ibobi started from 2 pm and continued till 7 pm.

Briefing media persons after the meeting, Government spokesman M Okendro said that the State Cabinet decided to approach the Governor to convene the 10th session of the 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly from February 25 .

The State Cabinet is hoping to adjourn the House session before Yaoshang festival.

Being the first session of the current year, the Governor would address the House.

The Cabinet meeting agreed to table the Dhanamanjuri University Bill 2014 during the Assembly session so as to pave way for establishment of a State University in the State under RUSA.

The Bill was tabled in the last Assembly session but it was withdrawn as certain important points were found missing.

Dhanamanjuri University would be set up after merging together all DM Colleges, GP Women's College and LMS Law College.

The proposed university has been already approved by the Project Approval Board of RUSA.

Establishment of Dhanamanjuri University can ameliorate the woes of State students desirous of pursuing higher education who could not get admission in Manipur University nor go outside the State due to financial difficulties, Okendro said.

The university would also help in promoting academic research works.

The Manipur State Cultural University Bill 2015 and the Draft Manipur Ropeway's Bill 2015 would also be tabled during the Assembly session as decided at the Cabinet meeting today.

In order to develop Manipur Forensic Science Laboratory, the State Cabinet agreed to fill up 24 vacant posts.

In addition to recruitment of 276 staff for State Health Society under National Rural Health Mission, the existing ban on appointment in Election Department would be lifted to fill up some vacant posts.

The Cabinet meeting also gave its nod to the Manipur Information Technology Policy with a view to promote IT sector in the State.

As for the Bill related to enforcement of ILPS in the State or a similar mechanism, the State Cabinet decided to defer the matter for sometime as the Bill was reportedly not comprehensive enough, Okendro conveyed.
