Imphal, November 04 2026:
A woman police Constable has been arrested for allegedly taking Rs 25 lakh and gold ornaments from another woman police Constable by promising to secure her promotion to Inspector in the Manipur Police Department.
The Constable was arrested yesterday in connection with a case filed by another woman Constable of the Manipur Police Department.
The accused was produced before the Court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM), Imphal West, by a team of Imphal police station, which sought her remand in police custody.
The Assistant Public Prosecutor (APP), appearing for the State, submitted that the complainant had lodged a written complaint with the Officer-in-Charge of Imphal Police Station, stating that the accused had approached her in April 2026 and claimed that she could help secure her promotion from Constable to Inspector.
The accused allegedly assured the complainant that she had the necessary influence and connections with higher authorities to facilitate the promotion through the sports quota.
Relying on the assurances, the complainant allegedly handed over Rs 25 lakh to the accused on different occasions, along with some gold ornaments.
The APP further submitted that, during preliminary interrogation, the accused admitted her involvement in the case and that her disclosure statement needed to be recorded and verified.
The APP accordingly prayed for police custody remand to facilitate proper investigation.
After hearing the submissions of the APP and perusing the case records, the Court remanded the accused to four days of police custody till November 7 for further investigation.
