CM inaugurates NIT's A-block, foundation stones laid

Chief Minister O Ibobi along with Union Minister of State for Human Resource Development (HRD), Prof Ram Shankar Katheria today inaugurated the Administrative Block and Academic Block (1) of the National Institute of Technology, Manipur located at Langol, here.
Foundation stones of the institute's main building and PG Boys' hostel of the institute were also laid by the two leaders.
CM O Ibobi graced the inauguration and foundation stone laying function as the chief guest while the Union Minister was the guest of honour and chairman, Board of Governors, NIT Manipur, Prof Yagnaswami Sundara Rajan was the functional president.
NIT, Manipur is one of the 30 National Institutes of Technology in India established as institutions of National importance with support from the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India.
The classes of NIT Manipur started in 2010 at Govt Polytechnic campus.

The institute was set up by the Ministry of Human Resource Development under the NIT Act in 2010.The annual intake of students is 220 through the IIT JEE every year.
NIT has various departments including Computer Science & Engineering (CSE), Electrical & Electronics Engineering (EEE), Electronics & Communication Engineering (ECE), Basic Sciences and Humanities, Civil Engineering (CE) and Mechanical Engineering (ME) .
Showing gratitude to the Chief Minister of Manipur for providing 340 acres of land for the institute, Prof Ram Shankar said that the institute would surely produce outstanding students and develop the human resource of India.
He added that a detailed report would be made on the education sector of Manipur and the report will be submitted to the Prime Minister of India with suggestions for further improvement.
Under the guidance of the PM Narendra Modi all the Union Ministers are directed to visit each and every corner of the country mainly the North East to assess the functioning of various departments under their Ministries to ensure inclusive growth, Prof Ram added.
Education is the only key to better future and development, he said urging the CM and the Governing body of NIT to inform the HRD Ministry of any shortcomings in its functioning.
O Ibobi said that the State Government has been trying to make Manipur an educational hub as it is located in one the most strategic parts of the country which is the gateway to neighbouring South East Asian countries.
Moreover, development in education sector can attract students from Myanmar which could ultimately boost good relations between the two countries and increase educational tourism, he added.
Further, the CM urged the visiting Union Minister of State to upgrade the existing NIT Manipur to the standard of an Indian Institute of Technology as the faculty members are well qualified or to set up a separate IIT in the State.
He also urged the Governing Body of NIT Manipur to maintain strict vigil at all times against land encroachers as it could create havoc in the long run.
As part of the function, trees were also planted by the CM and the visiting Union Minister.
