Ibobi demands IIT in Manipur

Manipur Chief Minister Okram Ibobi has drawn the attention of the Union Government for establishing an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in the state.
He said that the Manipur Government had allotted land for the construction of central institutes in Manipur and will continue to do so.
He was speaking on the occasion of the inauguration of the administrative block and academic block and foundation laying ceremony of the main building and PG boys' hostel of the National Institute of Technology at Langol on Sunday.
He said that education in Myanmar is still backward.
If the union government sets up central institutes students from the neighbouring country will get benefits.
This will bring India closer to the South East Asian countries.

He said that there would not be much of problem in upgrading the Manipur Institute of Technology to an IIT.
There are already qualified faculties.
Prof Ram Shanaker Katheria Union minister of state for Human Resources Development who was present in the function said that he would submit a report to the Minister Smitri Irani who will in turn hold talks with the Prime Minister.
IIIT session will be started during the current academic session.
The government had allotted 150 acres of land for the construction of the permanent campus.
380 acres of land had also been allotted for the NIT and the Minister was thankful for it.
