Longjam Jina murder case: Locals thrash accused murderer

A day after an 8 year old girl was found dead in a pool of blood in a drain near her house at Tharoijam Maning Leikai, local people today thrashed the alleged murderer who belongs to the same village black and blue before police collected his body from the field.
The accused has been identified as one Chingangbam Shamjai (20) s/o (L) Ch.
Ingocha also from Tharoijam Maning Leikai (Awangkhul) under Patsoi police station, Imphal West.
8-year old Longjam Jina, daughter of Mangijao was found lying in a pool of blood in a drain near her house at around 8:30 pm yesterday after she went missing since the time she went out on an errand to give tea to her parents working in the field.
After several hours of search, she was found dead in a drain nearby with blood smear in her private parts which indicated rape.
According to sources, an operation search of the males between the age group 14-40 of Tharoijam Maning Leikai was conducted by the local club today.
During the search, the Shamjai was found guilty of the crime to which he later confessed to the public.
He was then beaten up black and blue by the local people.
The search also managed to confiscate his clothes which he wore during the time of the crime and which he had kept hidden in his house.
The local club discussed regarding the matter and sent the clothes to the forensic science department for investigation.
Minutes later, the police arrived and arrested the culprit.
He was later taken to RIMS hospital for treatment.
According to reports, the dead body of Longjam Jina was today handed over tyo her family after post mortem.
Meanwhile, a public meeting held in connection with the murder of Longjam Jina at the community hall of Thaoroijam maning Lekai resolved to ban all kinds of drugs and alcohol in the area.
