Imphal, November 06 2014:
Direct Benefit Transfer of Cash Subsidy to LPG Consumer (DBTL) scheme under which subsidy being given to LPG consumers would be transferred directly to the consumers' bank accounts would be launched at the National level on January 1 next year.
The Government of India took up this initiative to check diversion of the huge amount of fund earmarked for LPG subsidy annually, informed an official source.
Presently, consumers are given LPG refills at the subsidised rate through distributors.
But once the scheme is put into effect, consumers have to buy LPG refills at the normal/market rate and the amount given as subsidy would be transferred to the consumers' bank accounts.
Market price for one LPG refill of 14.2 Kg in Manipur is Rs 1073 and the subsidised price is Rs 428.5.The subsidised price increases to Rs 443 if the refill is delivered at the consumers' home.
Once the scheme is launched, consumers have to buy LPG refill from distributors at Rs 1073 .
However, the official source did not inform when the DBTL scheme would be launched in Manipur.
Nonetheless, Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) has initiated due preparations for launching the scheme in Manipur too.
Aadhar numbers and bank accounts (of consumers) are two prerequisites for the DBTL scheme.
Aadhar cards, banks accounts and LPG consumer numbers are mandatory.
Moreover, consumers should collect Form III and Form IV from their respective distributors.
After all the requisite formalities are completed, the amount given as subsidy would be transferred to the consumers' Aadhar-linked bank accounts.
