Bpr/Tbl, April 04 2019:
Chief Minister N Biren has justified police crackdown on Manipur University and students and teachers within the university campus in the intervening night of September 20 and 21 last night.
Addressing a BJP election rally held at Nambol Bazar today, the Chief Minister said, "Where should police carry out search operations if not at those places where rogues (Lam Henba) are present" .
Giving a list of the several welfare schemes taken up by his Government and the Central Government such as Ayushman Bharat, CMHT, CMST etc, Biren asked if the previous Congress Government ever took up any such welfare scheme.
The character of the Congress party is known to the people.
They won the last Assembly election and formed Government after dividing voters on the line of religion and community.
But Congress party left the communities sharply polarised after the election, Biren said.

On the contrary, the BJP- led Government is committed to uniform development of all communities and it does not discriminate people on the line of religion or community, he claimed.
Road infrastructure including Imphal-Jiribam highway and Imphal-Moreh highway have been transformed as standard highways.
But the Congress party has been shouting all kinds of falsehoods because they are jealous of the BJP-led Government's spectacular achievements, he said and added that good governance is basically about ensuring people's welfare.
Asking which party should be elected to power in place of BJP which has done quite a lot of good works for the masses and is working continuously for the welfare of the people, Biren appealed to all the people elect the two BJP candidates to the Lok Sabha so that they can take key roles in the formation of the next Government at the Centre.
BJP candidate in Inner Manipur PC RK Ranjan said that it was Prime Minister Narendra Modi who brought rapid economic development and made the Indian economy sixth largest in the world.
In the meantime, the BJP-led State Government accomplished in 15 months what the Congress Government could not in 15 years, he asserted.
Even though the North East region was marginalised when Congress ruled the country, BJP transformed Look East Policy into Act East Policy and is paying special attention to the North East region, Ranjan said.
He continued that he decided to contest the Lok Sabha election with the main purpose of resolving the State's unemployment issue by taking pro-active roles in many youth oriented programmes like StartUp India, Skill India etc.
He went on to claim that no other party except BJP can provide good governance to citizens.
Altogether 314 people who left Congress and joined BJP were also felicitated at the gathering which was attended by many other BJP Ministers and leaders including 17th Lok Sabha Election BJP Manipur Pradesh in-charge Nalin Kohli.
Addressing a similar election rally held at Wangkhem, Thoubal district, RK Ranjan accused the previous Congress Government of pushing a large number of women into the category of widows.
He said that BJP has been working hard to secure 300 to 350 seats in the ensuing Lok Sabha election.
People need not be disheartened by the fact that there are only two Lok Sabha seats in the State.
If the two BJP candidates are elected, they would be joined by more than 300 BJP MPs elected from other parts of the country and they would raise all issues of Manipur collectively, Ranjan said.
BJP Manipur Pradesh spokesman Dr Nimaichand Luwang said that Ranjan would certainly get around 15,000 votes from Wangkhem AC.
LJP Minister Karam Shyam too spoke at the gathering.
