Imphal, April 04 2019:
BJP Manipur Pradesh Election Campaign Committee Vice-Chairman, Works Minister Th Biswajit has accused the Congress party of taking a leaf out of the divide and rule policy implemented by the British in the past and using it to create communal divide between the hills and the valley.
He made the statement during an election campaign for BJP Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency candidate Benjamin Mate, held at Thonglal Veng, Churachandpur today.
Speaking at the event, Biswajit said that ever since Manipur attained Statehood, the Congress party, which has been in power for a long time, has been playing divide and rule policy among the people.
The Congress Government would favour the Meitei at one time, then the Kuki at another time and the Naga and so on thus creating hatred and tension among the various communities residing in the State.
However, just two years after the BJP came to power in the State, it began to prioritize the remote parts of the hills and the valley, thus bringing numerous positive changes in the State, he claimed, adding that today, the bond between the hills and valley has been strengthened.
Rebuking all the allegations levelled against the BJP by the Congress party as baseless and unfounded, Biswajit clarified that BJP has no hidden agenda and its real agenda is 'development'.
Claiming BJP as a unique political party, the Minister said that BJP abides by the Ram Rajya principle which was adored by Gandhi.
After the BJP Government came to power in Manipur, rapid development has been witnessed in all spheres of life, he added.
Reminding the statement by late Dr BR Ambedkar that the status of a society is decided by the condition of the women in that society, Minister Biswajit said that the Prime Minister led BJP Government has done many things for the upliftment of women in the country.
He also spoke about Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao scheme taken up by the BJP Government to increase the sex ratio in favour of girl child and to ensure proper education for girls.
Accusing the Congress party of looking down on the people of the hills, Biswajit claimed that the BJP is not one to resort to such dirty politics.
Nominating MC Mary Kom as a Rajya Sabha MP, is an act of showing respect to the women of not only Manipur, but the whole North East region, he added.
