Imphal, April 29 2024:
Kangleipak Students' Association (KSA) along with students of Manipur University on Monday staged protest against alleged favouritism and irregularities during the staff recruitment process in the university.
During the protest inside the MU campus, the students held placards and raised slogans like "Stop favouritism and nepotism in Manipur University", "Close the recruitment process of University teaching and non-teaching staff" and "Respect the relation between the teachers and the students".
Speaking to reporters bn the side-lines, president Sukham Bidyananda informed that KSA has been making all efforts to eradicate the deeply entrenched corruption in the University for the last many years.
The protest has been organised in response to reports of irregularities during the recruitment process for two assistant professors in Manipuri Department.
It is very unfortunate that the students who intended to meet the head of Manipuri Department to demand remedial measures for the wrong doings during the recruitment process, have been projected in poor light by levelling false allegations with the ulterior motive to tarnish reputation of the students community, he said while adding that the University should take up necessary actions against the erring head of Manipuri department.
While contending that standard norms have been violated in the university, Bidyananda said that during the appointment of the dean of the university, it has been clearly mentioned that the no head of department of the constituent school can be appointed as dean.
However, all these norms have been disregarded, he maintained.
