NH-37 blockade threat over illegal factories

Imphal, March 26 2025:
Residents of Moidangpok, New Keithelmanbi, and Moidangpok Khunou have threatened to block the NH-37 if government authorities do not take necessary actions against alleged illegal establishment of a bitumen mixing plant, unlawful operation of stone crushing units and setting up of brick kilns in residential areas, by Thursday.
A sit-in protest was organised by Moidangpok, New Keithelmabi and Moidangpok Khunou locals on Wednesday at Moidangpok Aheibam Leikai to denounce operation of the bitumen plant and factories in their areas.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines, one Longjam Biju Devi of Moidangpok Maning Leikai, contended that stone crushing units, and brick farms are being set up in residential areas, causing serious health issues to the local population.
She condemned the actions of wealthy individuals who are allowed to act withput restraint, calling it highly unfortunate.
The protestors warned that they would be compelled to block NH-37 in ease the government fails to provide a positive response by Thursday.
Recent Youth Club secretary L Dhanajit, who also participated in the protest, mentioned that the establishment of a Bitumen.
Mixing plant by M/s Yess Infra Pvt Ltd violates the Manipur Conservation of Paddy Land and Wetland (MCPLW) Act 2014.He noted that the JAC against Polluting Factories/Industries has been voicing opposition to establishment of industries arid manufacturing units on paddy lands in Moidangpok, New Keithelmanbi and Moidangpok Khunou.
He further stated that the JAC has been trying to halt the illegal operations of industries in Moidangpokp and surrounding areas by filing a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the High Court.
He urged the government to intervene to prevent pollution and protect the environment.
