Imphal, March 26 2025: A Special Initiative PMSMA programme Mironbising Gi Khudol' (A gift for expectant mothers) was organised by State Maternal Health Division and District Health Society, Imphal West at RDO College of Nursing, Lamdeng on Wednesday.

The event was attended by Imphal West DC Mayanglambam Rajkumar as chief guest, while State Health Society NHM director Dr M Dinesh, Imphal West CMO Dr L Joykumar, Maternal Health advisor Dr Meena Seram and Maternal Health SNO Dr Achuina Golmei were the guests of honour.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Meena informed that the Special Initiative PMSMA programme is an extension of the Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan (PMSMA) launched in Manipur on October 9, 2018, and is providing holistic maternal healthcare services, especially in remote areas bereft of specialist doctors and ultrasound facilities.

Stating that under the initiative, pregnant women receive quality healthcare services, with focus on identifying high-risk pregnancies, she highlighted importance of timely interventions and referrals to healthcare centres having better facilities to help reduce maternal morbidity and mortality.

As part of the programme, expectant mothers were offered free ANC check-ups, laboratory tests, ultrasounds (USG), medications and refreshments.

Additionally, health talks and yoga sessions conducted by AYUSH Division, and demonstrations of nutritious foods by the Social Welfare Department were the other highlight of the programme, participated by 102 registered pregnant women.

Of the total, 100 women underwent ultrasound screening, 33 laboratory tests, 26 examined for HIV and 50 participated in the yoga sessions.

Thursday's programme marked the 27th edition of the initiative in the state, which was selected to deliver oral presentation on "Mironbising Gi Khudol" at the 9th National Summit for Good & Replicable Practices in the Public Healthcare System in India.
