Thoubal, November 20 2024:
Officials and staff from the Thoubal Forest Division launched a crackdown on the illegal trapping of migratory birds in various water bodies in areas under the division's jurisdiction.
The operation, carried out under the supervision of Thoubal DFO Dr Leishangthem Jeeceelee, and range officer Dineshchandra Salam, involved forest staff as well as members of the Wildlife and Biodiversity Conservation Committee (WBCC) of Manipur.
During the drive, conducted on Tuesday and Thursday, the team recovered over 21 bird traps from Lilong Makha Leikai PHC Mamang and Lilong Mairelkhun Loukol.
Dineshchandra urged the public to refrain from hunting migratory birds using nets, pesticides, or firearms, cautioning that anyone found engaging in such illegal activities would face legal action under the Wildlife Protection Act of 1972 .
