Birth centenary of RK Kamaljit observed

Directorate of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) in collaboration with Rajarshi Bhagyachandra Cultural Foundation Manipur, Sahitya Thoupang Lup and Manipuri Sahitya Parishad, Tripura jointly observed the birth centenary celebration of late RK Kamaljit Singha, Tripura at the DIPR auditorium on Sunday.
The observance was attended by IPR and Art & Culture commissioner M Joy Singh; Manipuri Sahitya Parishad, Tripura president L Birmangal Singha; Rajarshi Bhagyachandra Cultural Foundation, Manipur vice president G Ranjit Sharma; and Sahitya Akademi awardee Sarat chand Thiyam.
In his address as the chief guest, M Joy remembered Kamaljit Singha as a multifaceted personality.
He said: "Culture has always been in existence since the beginning of mankind.
The co-relationship between mankind and culture are inseparable".
He further expressed that 'Nat Sankirtan' of Manipur was included in the Representative List Of the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity on December 4, 2013 .
The Department of Art & Culture through San geet Natak Akademi has also sent a proposal to granted recognition to 'Lai-Harao-ba' for its inclusion in the Representative List of the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity recently on October 14.Mention may be made that, Rajkumar Kamaljit Singha was one of the pioneers in establishing Manipuri Sahitya Parishad, Tripura under Imphal Manipuri Sahitya Parishad as the founder secretary in 1963 .
He was the member of Tripura Territorial Council in the year 1963 and one of the 30 members of Tripura Legislative Assembly MLA in 1967 .
He had also written many books and had associated and rendered service in many other bodies.
The observance was also attended by Mutua Museum director Mutua Bahadur and Tripura cultural activist W Biramangol.
A book on RK Kamaljit, written by his son RK Ta-runjit, joint editor (Marup), Tripura was also released on the occasion.
Later, a poetry recitation session of 30 poets including seven from Tripura was chaired by AIR Imphal former Director Dilip Mayengbam was conducted.
