Critics Forum to commemorate 100 years of Manipuri drama

Imphal, January 02 2025: Critics Forum, Manipur would be commemorating 100 years of Manipuri Drama this year with several seminars and symposiums.

Informing this in a statement, the Forum said the journey of Manipuri drama began in 1925 with the play 'Narasingh' (Awa Ngamba) staged at the royal palace under the auspices of the then king Sir Churachand.

The play was written by Lairenmayum Ibungohal.

This year, the journey completes 100 year and the Forum would be commemorating the centenary with workshops, seminars and symposiums on different topics including 'Performance Analysis', 'Performance as the Act of Transferring the History of Manipur', 'Manipuri Folk Drama as Applied Folklore', and 'Post-colonial Manipuri Theatre' among others, the statement added.
