Imphal, May 24 2023:
Neither the state nor the central government was aware of or prepared for the war waged by the 'illegal' immigrants for the ultimate agenda of separate administra-tion, said former chairman of the proscribed United National Liberation Front (UNLF) RK Meghen.
Speaking to reporters during distribution of essential items to the relief camps opened at NB College Khundrakpam, Pukhao Laipham, Keibi Awang Leikai and Keibi Taret Khul on Wednesday, RK Meghen point-ed out that it is not the time for other communities to remain silent over the issues faced by the Meitei in the valley.
Illegal immigrants from across the border have now started settling in the state with total of 1600 villages settled by these illegal immigrants.
The Meitei com-munity understands this fact but the government is feigning ignorance about the situation.
Meghen further informed that the illegal immigrants engineered the clashes in the state with the demand for a separate administration in the forefront.
The development also came in the wake of the state government's agenda to root out illegal immigrants settling in the reserved forest area.
RK Meghen also stated that the present violence is not a war waged by the Meitei against the Kukis as perceived by the out-side world but aggression by the Kukis against the Meitei com-munity.
However, we should remember that no one can crush the Meitei when the community stands united, he remarked.
Many tribals under the Kuki community may stand against the Meiteis for some time but there will be a time when all the clans in the Kuki fold will fight a ferocious battle, Meghen forewarned.
