Noney, November 20 2024:
A labourer of Ganpati Company died in a rock blast incident in Nungdalan sector of the National Highway-37 (Imphal Jiribam Road), in between K Sinam and Sehjang villages in Kangpokpi district.
The deceased has been identified as Salimul Hague Laskar (39), son of Islam Uddin Laskar, from Cachar, Assam.
The incident occurred around 7:20 pm on Tuesday when a rockslide triggered by the blast buried the worker.
The road expansion work in the area, undertaken by Ganpati Company, involves controlled explosions to facilitate the process.
The victim s body was recovered on Wednesday morning and transported to Imphal for a post-mortem examination.
The rockslide caused a temporary roadblock, disrupting vehicular movement.
However, debris was cleared around 3 pm on Wednesday, allowing stranded vehicles to pass through the affected area.
However, over 50 loaded trucks are stranded near the Noney police check post due to residual effects of the rockslide.
These vehicles are expected to move toward Imphal on Thursday under security convoy.
If the rain continues, further rockslides could pose challenges for vehicular passage in the area.
