Dengue cases reach 35,6 more samples sent for testing

Imphal, October 17 2022: Laipham Khunou is slowly becoming a hotspot for dengue with the number of positive cases now standing at 35.Meanwhile, 6 samples have been sent to VRDL centre of JNIMS for testing on Monday.

After the first positive case was detected at Laipham Khunou on October 8, people exhibiting fever symptoms got themselves tested at private hospitals, which increased the number of positive cases.

Taking serious note of the emerging situation, an official team led by Imphal East District Malaria officer collaborated with Heingang PHC staff and the local club of Laipham Khunou in organising a mass testing and awareness programme on October 15 .

Around 29 samples were collected during the programme, which were then sent to VRDL centre, JNIMS for testing.

Of the 29 samples, 19 returned positive, thus, putting the total number of dengue cases to 35 .

In this regard, Imphal East District Malaria officer Dr Usham Jugindro said that so far, no positive cases have been detected from among those with travel history.

He then informed that the mosquitoes carrying the dengue virus breeds on accumulated water and bites at daytime, especially in the afternoon.

Thus, apart from spreading awareness about the disease, fogging work is being carried out.

One must avoid getting bitten by mosquitoes at day time and prevent any accumulation of water in open spaces or containers including tyres.

If there is any open storage of water, the water must be flushed out and the container thoroughly clean or the mosquitoes could breed again even if the water is replaced.
