Imphal, October 15 2022:
In view of the rising number of dengue cases in Laipham Khunou area over the past few days, LKYDA Club in association with District Health Society, NVBDCP Imphal East organised a mass dengue testing at the locality on Saturday.
On October 8, the first dengue case in the locality was detected, followed by 20 more positive cases with two in in serious condition.
As such, the mass testing was carried out to facilitate testing of suspected cases at JNIMS.
In this regard, Imphal East District Malaria Officer Dr U Jugindro said that since the first case was detected, steps have been taken up on alternate days to control the spread of the vector-borne disease, including conduct of creating awareness programme among the people as well as fumigating suspected mosquito-breeding areas.
As the Aedes aegypti mosquitoes, which carry the dengue virus, bite human only at day time, people must avoid getting bitten by mosquitoes at day time and prevent accumulation of dirty water in dark spaces on containers, spare tyres, etc., he said.
Cautioning that the transmission speed of dengue is quite high, Dr Jugindro again emphasised the need for taking effective precautionary measures, adding that condition of a patient could deteriorate for the worse if the blood platelet counts were to drop.
Thus, he urged all for available necessary treatment at the earliest.
