Flood-hit fishers suffer loss of ₹178 crore

Along with damaging paddy plants in around 3644 acres, the recent floods in the state also devastated fish farms estimated at over Rs 178 crore across three sub-divisions in Thoubal district.
According to a report of the Agriculture and Fisheries officers furnished to Thoubal district administration, the floods ruined fish farms covering 2030 hectares in Lilong, 1285 hectares in Thoubal and 2623 hectares in Wangjing Tentha within the Wangjing Tentha sub-division.
The report also specified that the destruction of the fish farms has caused loss to the tune of Rs 17,814 lakh (Rs 6090 lakh for 2030 hectares in Lilong, Rs 3855 lakh for 1285 hectares in Thoubal and Rs 7869 lakh for 2623 hectares in Wangjing Tentha).
Additionally, the report stated that the floods have devastated 3644 hectares of paddy fields across 54 villages in the three sub-divisions.
More reports of damage are likely in the coming days.
