SBI asked to disburse PM Surya Ghar loans

The first State Bank of India (SBI) branch in Saikul assembly constituency was virtually inaugurated on Wednesday by chief secretary Prashant Kumar Singh from the SBI Regional Business Office (RBO), Babupara, here.
The inauguration ceremony in Imphal was attended by dignitaries, including Ranjan Yumnam, director Institutional Finance, Manipur; Khumukcham Okendro Singh, regional manager SBI RBO Imphal; and Moirangthem Devakishore Singh, assistant general manager SBI Imphal Branch.
Simultaneously, a corresponding event was held in Saikul, where Kangpokpi additional deputy commissioner Shokhongam Baite, along with civil society leaders and community members, were present.
In his address, chief secretary Prashant Kumar Singh underscored the critical role of expanding banking infrastructure in underserved regions to drive socio-economic development.
He lauded SBI's efforts in establishing the Saikul branch, which marks the 66th SBI branch in Manipur, and emphasised the need for the bank to enhance its administrative capabilities to support its growing network.
He assured full state support in facilitating regulatory approvals and administrative requirements.
The chief secretary then urged SBI to expedite the sanction and disbursement of PM Surya Ghar loans in Manipur, highlighting his prior discussions on the matter with Challa Sreenivasulu Setty, chairman of State Bank of India, and S Radhakrishnan, chief general manager Guwahati Circle.
Addressing the gathering, regional manager Khumukcham Okendro Singh commended the dedication of SBI officials in providing seamless banking services and fostering economic growth through the new branch.
He encouraged the local population to leverage the full range of banking services available, including savings and current accounts, agricultural and business loans, and digital banking solutions.
The establishment of the SBI Saikul Branch marks a significant step toward enhancing financial inclusion in Manipur.
The SBI Saikul branch is located approximately 22 km from Kangpokpi district headquarters and 17 km from Sapormeina and the branch is the first in the Saikul Assembly Constituency and the fifth in Kangpokpi district.
