Two PREPAK (Pro), one RPF/PLA cadre arrested

Imphal, March 23 2023: Imphal West district police commando apprehended two members of the proscribed PREPAK (Pro) from Lairenkabi on Thursday.

The arrested members have been identified as Chandam Chandramani alias Gambhir (45) son of late Thambou and Sorokhaibam Khamba (46) son of S Narsingh both of Lairenkabi Mamang Leikai.

Police source said that the CDO team led by OC inspector P Achouba carried out an operation in Lairenkabi Maning Leikai area based on an intelligence input.

On questioning Chandramani, who was arrested from his house around 6 am, he disclosed to have joined the UG group under its self-styled commander Khambaton, who is in Myanmar at present, one year ago and he is involved in extortion activities from educational institutes located in and around Imphal.

Further stating that was arrested by security forces as a member of KYKL in 2001, Chandramanu disclosed that he recruited Sorokhaibam Khamba under the instruction of commander Khambaton.

Based on his disclosure, the CDO team also arrested Khamba from his house.

He reportedly joined the UG group about two weeks ago and has started working for the party.

He further confided that he along with Chandramani were about to leave for Myanmar in a few days.

The CDO team seized one mobile phone each from them and handed them over to Lamsang police station for further investigation.

Meanwhile, a joint team of Bishnupur district police commando led by OC Y Shaktishen and 9 Assam Rifles apprehended an active cadre of the proscribed UG group'RPF/PLA from Kumbi Thingel Leikai, Bishnupur district.

The arrested individual has been identified as Wahengbam Paikhomba Meitei alias Nanao alias Akajao (33) son of W Pahari Meitei of Kumbi Thingel Leikai, who is said to be involved in extortion of money from various individuals and government offices in Bishnupur and Imphal West districts.

He was arrested from his house by the joint team around 11 am on Thursday.

Paikhomba reportedly disclosed that he has been an active cadre of RPF/ PLA since he joined in 2007 through one Keba of RPF/PLA and allotted Army no.2873.He also revealed that he was arrested earlier in 2014.On further verification, he said that he is presently working under the instruction of one Chinglen (finance section) for extortion of money in general area of Kwakeithel.

The captive has been handed over to Kumbi police station further legal actions, apolice report said.
