Right to Information week concludes

The weeklong observance of Right to Information Week organised by Manipur Information Commission under the aegis of Department of Personnel & Training and ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances & Pensions concluded with the valedictory function held at Manipur Press Club, here, on Tuesday.
Speaking as chief guest of the function, Lamlai MLA Kh Ibomcha reminded all concerned that as RTI helps access information related to government activities and programmes for the welfare of the people, the public not only need to be well versed with the Act but also understand that it is crucial in bringing about good governance.
Pointing out that people elect their own government in a democracy, MLA Ibomcha said that if the electors claim that system of governance is not up to the mark then they can be termed ignorant about of their democratic duties and responsibilities.
He also urged the people of the state to set aside differences and work together for protecting Manipur.
Delivering the presidential speech, Manipur Information Commission's state information commissioner Oinam Sunil said that many changes have been brought to the state with the implementation of RTI Act and the Digital Personal Data Protection Act - 2023.Not only the public but also the media fraternity should discuss and dissect the importance of RTI Act, he emphasised.
All Manipur Working Journalists Union (AMWJU) president Bijoy Kakchingtabam was also present as guest of honour of the function, during which winners of a painting competition conducted as part of the RTI week were presented with certificates and cash awards.
