Mao Gate martyrs remembered on 14th anniversary

The 14th anniversary of martyrdom of students namely Neli Chakho and Dikho Loshuo was observed at the Martyrs' Park, Mao Gate in Senapati district on Monday.
During the observance of martyrdom of Neli Chakho and Dikho Loshuo organised jointly by Mao Council and Mao Students' Union under the aegis of United Naga Council (UNC), wreaths were laid b\ leaders of different civil society organisations including Kalin-amei Village Authority, youth and women's organisations followed by a minute's silence in honour of the duo.
Addressing the gathering, Naga Hoho vice president Victor Vekehielie said that the sacrifice made by Neli Chakho and Dikho Loshuo was immeasurable and their legacy deserves to be upheld by all.
Naga people will remember the day in its history, he said while mentioning that the Naga Hoho stands for political and sovereign rights of the , Nagas to protect and defend its culture and tradition.
He further cautioned that a divided house cannpt bring honourable and acceptable solution to the vexed indo-Naga political issue, while emphasising on forging unity to expedite the process of negotiations.
UNC vice president N Gon-mei Poujan, in his speech, said the day is being observed with a sense of national pride in vieur of the fact the two students sacrificed their precious lives for the causes of the Naga nation.
Although the two young Nagas are physically absent today, yet their actions and deeds are still alive and their voices calling out for unity and oneness can be heard by all, he added.
Naga Students' Association, Manipur president Luikang Luckson termed the May 6, 2010 incident at Mao Gate as a brutal reminder of social injustice and denial of people's rights while Naga Women s Union president Priscilla Thiumai stated that the patriotism of Neli Chakho and Dikho Loshuo will always be remembered.
