Khundrakpam MLA Th Lokeswar has said that Moreh SDPO Ch Anandkumar got killed to weakness of the government of Manipur, which could not even take a firm decision to deploy additional state forces in the border town.
MLA Th Lokeswar distributed blankets to displaced people of Khundrakpam AC currently staying in the pre-fabricated shelter homes constructed by the government near Sajiwa jail on Saturday.
Th Lokeswar told media persons on the sidelines of the blanket distribution function that the state government could not send additional state force personnel to Moreh despite repeated requests from personnel already deployed in the strategically important border town.
For a long time, Kuki women blocked the road to prevent movement of additional state forces despatched to Moreh in Tengnoupal.
It was the timidity of the government that the road blockade could not be cleared, he alleged.
Replying a to query raised by media persons, MLA Th Lokeswar strongly condemned the killing of SDPO Ch Anandkumar by Kuki militants and said that use of sniper rifle is illegal in the country.
It was very unfortunate that a weapon supposed to be used during war between two countries was utilised in killing a police officer, he said, adding that Union home minister Amit Shah and chief minister N Biren Singh should not remain silent on the use of sniper rifles by armed Kukis in the ongoing violence.
He also said that both the governments of India and Manipur should be held responsible for the killing of police officer Ch Anandkumar.
According to MLA Th Lokeswar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi continues to remain mute on the violence in Manipur.
PM Modi assured of delivering justice when the video of two Kuki women paraded naked went viral but never spoke a word when two students were brutally killed.
While urging chief minister N Biren Singh to meet PM Modi for bringing an end to the violence, Th Lokeswar said the present situation may worsen and a completely chaotic situation may arise if the government puts no effort to end the crisis at the earliest.
He said that many villagers of Khundrakpam AC like Ikou, Sadu Yengkhuman, Dolaithabi, Leitanpokpi and Mairenpat are suffering after their houses were looted, torched and vandalised by armed Kukis.
They left everything including cloths and fled their homes just to be alive.
With the onset of winter months, blankets are being provided to the inmates, he said, adding that distribution of one blanket for one displaced family by the government is not enough and accordingly provided three/four blankets from his side.
