Imphal, August 27 2024: A father and his young son narrowly escaped death after their car plunged into the Iril River when the suspension bridge at Urup Naokal under Irilbung police station in Imphal East district they were crossing snapped.

The incident occurred around 3:30 pm Tuesday when Md Shahid (42) of Urup Naokal and his 7-year-old son Md Imtiyaj Ahmad were crossing the bridge in their Maruti A-Star car(MN06LB 5617) on their way to a private tuition centre at Arapati Meetei Leikai.

As they reached the middle of the bridge, the steel cable snapped, causing the bridge to tilt sideways and fall of car into the river below.

Locals were present nearby, immediately noticed the incident and rushed to rescue the father and son unharmed.

However, their vehicle is still under water at the time of filing this report.
